Chorus
It doubles the sound with a slightly detuned, moving copy. It is the "wide" shimmer of ballad electric pianos and of the JUNO.
How to recognise it by ear
- The sound feels wider and "watery", as if two almost identical keyboards were playing at once.
- The motion is slow and gentle; if you hear a metallic, jet-plane sweep, it is a flanger.
- Without chorus, the same FM piano sounds flat and narrow: the difference is huge in ballads.
Typical settings
Rate from 0.3 to 1 Hz, depth from 2 to 6 ms over a 10–20 ms base delay, mix from 30 to 55 %.
What Piano Effect measures
The LFO rate in Hz and the depth in ms. A long-delay chorus over low notes cannot be measured with a microphone over a full mix, and the app says so instead of making it up.
